Real Kickboxing
The name of our kickboxing program is Eight Weapons Kickboxing. Our program is an incredible full body workout where you use your hands, elbows, legs, and knees to create powerful striking combinations. Although it is inspired by many styles it is primarily rooted in the style of Muay Thai. You will learn how to move, throw combinations, dodge strikes, and use all of your body’s eight weapons. Coach Abel Gomez breaks down each movement into easy to learn drills. You start with simple solo drills and end up hitting pads like a pro by the end of each class and it is an insane workout. You use your whole body to punch, twist, kick, elbow, and knee the pads. Coach Abel is right there to provide adjustments and tips.
Is this like cardio kickboxing?
NO! Many “cardio kickboxing” or “fitness” oriented kickboxing classes are not realistic. In those type of classes, students work alone on various types of punching bags or kicking bags and don’t learn any real skills. The instructor basically jots down a workout and watches everyone do it, with little care as to whether they are doing it correctly. A bag doesn’t move. A bag doesn’t react. A bag doesn’t motivate or push you. In our classes, you will always be working with partners or the instructor developing real skills, you will never hit a bag. Coach Abel teaches a unique numbering system that allows you to go from solo footwork drills to partner padwork drills in your first day. It is not only perfect for people who just want to get in shape but it is a perfect class for people who also want to compete in Muay Thai or Mixed Martial Arts. It is not uncommon to burn up to 700 calories in one hour of a real kickboxing class.
